Our ambition for change
We build the capacity of community groups to bring about positive change in their streets, public spaces and public transportation. We do this through community research and engagement, training and knowledge sharing, building relationships and networks and providing design and implementation support.
Together we can create socially inclusive and healthy cities and communities for everyone.
Partnerships for social impact
Change comes through partnership. We work with community groups, civil society organisations, NGOs and other stakeholders. We are particularly keen to work more closely with the built environment sector - architects, civil engineers, urban planners - to leverage their skills and knowledge to support community groups and build their capacity for change.

Ukraine: Inclusive Communities
We are undertaking community level research in Ukraine looking at how displacement disrupts people's connections to place and the role of inclusive streets and public spaces in building community resilience.

Walking is great - it's social, healthy and sustainable. Let's provide communities with the tools and guidance to promote walking and create inclusive and enjoyable walking routes that connect people and places.
Communities rely on public transportation, especially its most marginalised and excluded residents. We are developing a toolkit to guide communities to identify and understand the barriers they face using public transport and to develop a clear action plan to take to stakeholders.
We believe in the power of placemaking to improve wellbeing, health and social connectedness. We want to support community groups to co-create and deliver simple interventions that bring positive change to shared spaces in their communities.

UN World Urban Forum 2024
Taking place in Cairo in 2024, we hope to build on our past participation at WUF 2022 (Abu Dhabi) and WUF 2020 (Kuala Lumpur) by talking to governments and stakeholders about our community engagement work and private sector partnerships.

Pop-up public space intervention in Mexico City
Working with a group of 30 older women who guided us through the issues they face in their community, we are implementing a temporary public space improvement project to create a place where they feel safe, social and a sense of ownership - illustrating to the local authority why inclusive spaces are so important.
This project is in partnership with Placemaking Mexico and HelpAge International.
World Urban Forum
At the World Urban Forum's in Abu Dhabi (2020) and Kuala Lumpur (2018) we presented and spoke on a number of panels about how to bring about community-led change to create more inclusive cities - particularly for older people and LGBTQI+.
Our participation at WUF was supported by UN Habitat.
GIS mapping of inclusion barriers in New Delhi, Nairobi and Mexico City
Gathering over 300,000 geo-tagged data points from 1,800 participants, we created a collection of 9 briefs highlighting the lived experiences of income poor communities around air pollution, access to public transportation, public sanitation facilities and much more.
This project was delivered with HelpAge International and funded by the World Bank.
Highlighting community-led best practice in Latin America
Working on behalf of HelpAge International and in partnership with the WHO, we gathered stories and case studies of community-led inclusive best practice to encourage placemaking across Latin America.
This project was delivered with HelpAge International and with support from the World Health Organisation.
Community voice training module
On behalf of HelpAge International, we contributed to a training module that aims to strengthen and amplify the voice of marginalised older people around public space and transportation issues in their community.
This project was delivered with HelpAge International.
Creative community engagement in masterplanning
Working on behalf of Street Space, we delivered a creative and inclusive approach to listening to what the community valued about their existing spaces and places, to inform a local council-led masterplan.
