Community Placemaking Incubator

Supporting community groups to create inclusive streets and better places in their neighbourhoods through pop ups and low cost urban interventions

What's the issue?

Low income communities around the world suffer from unsafe, unwelcoming and inaccessible streets, public spaces and green spaces. The consequences include poor health, loneliness and isolation and inaccessible services.

How can we address this?

Highlight and promote the potential benefits of placemaking in creating more inclusive communities by sharing knowledge and examples
Tools and guidance to help community groups identify the issues they face and recognise opportunities for placemaking interventions
Small grants for community groups to implement their placemaking ideas and initiatives

How will we promote placemaking as a community development approach?

  • Promote placemaking to community groups - online seminars, briefings and best practice sharing to highlight how placemaking interventions can help create more inclusive communities.

  • Online training modules - self guided online modules that help community groups build their capacity and understanding around placemaking and the role it can play in strengthening their community.

  • Design support and implementation - we work with architects and designers to be able to provide community groups with the technical expertise and design ideas to create exciting and inclusive public spaces and make their ambitions happen.

  • Small grants for local projects - provide community groups with small grants to get their ideas off the ground and start building momentum around community change.

What are the next steps?

We are looking to find new partners to support this work and build on our past achievements. We believe passionately in the power of placemaking as a tool for inclusive community development and feel the built environment sector and other partners can help deliver this ambition. Get in touch to see how we can work together.
